There is a Rimini hand, pardon the pun, among those who, last June 19th, contributed to the awarding of the bid to the Palacongressi di Rimini for the organisation of the 28th Congress of the Federation of the European Societies for Surgery of the Hand – FESSH, which will take place from 17-20 May 2023. The Palacongressi's successful bid for the organisation of the FESSH congress was the culmination of work carried out with great determination and attention. What were the determining factors for success?

"First of all, we must remember that we had come very close two years ago, losing out to Amsterdam. There is a whole chain of events, presentations, behind the possibility of winning an important international congress like this one. I would say that there were two important elements: for my part, the fact that I am known in the international scientific community, having also been President of the Italian Society of Surgery of the Hand (SICM), President of the European Wrist Athroscopy Society (EWAS) and President of the International Society for Sport Traumatology of the Hand (ISSPORTH). Then, of course we could count on the fact that the city of Rimini, in terms of hospitality, accommodation facilities and its history, delivers one hundred percent. In the final analysis, given that this is the third time that FESSH has come to Italy - the first in Bologna in 1997, then Milan in 2015 - we can say that Italy is a highly-valued country".

Which of the main competitors did you fear the most, Helsinki or Istanbul?

“Definitely Finland: it's bid was very favourable, especially from an economic point of view”.

How would you judge the support of the Convention Bureau di Rimini? Were you in good hands?
“Absolutely, their support was incredible. They provided technical assistance when it came to filling in all the paperwork, cultivating contacts, and of course the logistic support in Berlin, where voting was carried out for the bid".

How influential were the characteristics of the actual venue?

“The Palacongressi di Rimini is without a doubt one of the best in Europe, in the world even. I've attended events at dozens of congress facilities and I can safely say that Rimini's is exceptional, providing all the necessary services, modern technologies and remarkable versatility. For that matter, the leaders of the FESSH had already experienced it in person when I invited some of them to the national SICM Congress in 2013".
